Mamelodi Sundowns Reach Carling Knockout Final
Mamelodi Sundowns will meet Magesi FC in the Carling Knockout final in less than two weeks after beating Marumo Gallants 2-0 in the semi-final on Sunday, 10 November.
Playing at Dr Petrus Molemela Stadium in Bloemfontein, Free State, the Brazilians were kept on their toes by Siwelele Sa Marumo throughout the first half. By the same token, the former was able to prevent the latter from capitalising on any opportunities.
Eventually, the goalless deadlock was broken in the second half when Sundowns midfielder, Lucas Ribeiro Costa, scored from the penalty spot against goalkeeper Washington Arubi in the 53rd minute.
In the fourth minute of injury time, the reigning Premier Soccer League champions extended their lead to 2-0 with Neo Maema finding the back of the net.
As a result of this victory, Sundowns will face newly-promoted Magesi FC in the final, which will take place next Saturday, 23 November, at Toyota Stadium in Bloemfontein. Will the champions prevail, or will the rookies pull off an upset?
As always, watch this space!
